Finding the simplistic method in the complexity of the tech world is what drove us to improve Ruby Datum throughout 2022. We constantly look for solutions and ways to approve the platform with our clients steering our efforts. From minor bug fixes to the introduction of custom fields and Form Tasks, we’ve pushed the Ruby Datum further than ever before.

To round off the year, we’ve made some final improvements. We’ve completed our migration to Microsoft Azure, improved custom fields, and made Ruby Datum ready for the future of security with Passkeys.

Microsoft Azure Migration & “Bring Your Own Storage”

We have now migrated to Azure which means you can “bring your own infrastructure” to Ruby Datum and optionally host data in your own country. We can integrate with your own storage provider, whether its the files, database, indexing or anything else, anywhere in the world, on Azure, Amazon AWS, Google Cloud and beyond – it is up to you. Let us manage it, or manage yourself. We now offer this flexibility.

Custom fields – related document default folder, and instant attachments

When creating a “related document” custom field, you can now specify a default folder that the user sees when browsing. Alternatively, you can also flag the field as “Upload only” which means the user can now upload a document (even if they can’t see the folder itself). They will not be able to access this document once uploaded, or see documents in the folder from other users. If they replace the document, it will replace it in the folder (unless version control is enabled, in which case it will upload as a new version). This is useful for items such as ID scans on user profiles, etc.

You could even create a custom field to manage verification status, so you can allocate a team member permission to review the ID documents and flag where necessary.

Passkeys – one of the most secure ways to login

Passwords are so last year! Thanks to Google for pushing Passkeys in the latest stable Chrome update (with more browsers doing the same), you can now use Passkeys to login with Ruby Datum. Soon, we will give the option for Passkeys users to go completely passwordless. For now, you can add as a second factor authentication login method from your settings page.

How does it look? Here is an example. When you log in to Ruby Datum, a notification similar to this pops up and gets sent to your phone immediately, which asks to confirm your fingerprint (or facial recognition, pin, or whatever you have set up for biometrics).

Interface improvements

We have updated the interface. More data now fits into table cells where the content exceeds the standard heigh/width of a cell:

Here are some other updates:

• Placeholders now have a new icon
  
  
• You can now assign tasks either to users or groups, but on a task-by-task basis (as opposed to being set globally/site-wide)
  
  
• Custom fields now added for users, meaning additional profile fields can be requested/entered by users (required or optional – you decide!)
